  2. “Every generation of Americans needs to know that freedom-Freedom-consist not in doing what we like , but in having the right to do what we ought.”-Lincoln What is your definition of freedom? Do you agree or disagree with this statement? What is Freedom?

  3. “How ought we live together? In seeking an answer to this question, can society exclude moral truth and moral reasoning?” What do you think he means by this and do you agree? Why or why not? Robert N. Bellah

  4. “..distinguished between ‘natural liberty’ that is the liberty to do what you lists, we would say to do what you want and ‘moral freedom’ in reference to the covenant between God and man…” Have you ever felt conflicted about something you wanted to do, but it did not honor “God” and support what he wanted you to do with your life? Mixed Feelings?

  5. “Lincoln says that we should only do what is “good, just and honest”. Is this legitimate point? Are there instances in which you have to go against this rule to accomplish something for yourself? Why or why not? During this time , slavery was a big deal, did everyone just go against what was “good just and honest” or is there a reason why this would be an acceptable practice? Should We?

  6. Bellah talks about “a loss of civic consciousness or a sense of obligation to the rest of society also no as duty free elite.” Is this true? What supporting events can be found? Sense of Obligation

  7. “American lifestyle of consumption more members of the family have had to work more hours just to stay in the even.” Are Americans too concerned with their own well-being? Has America become too concerned with consumerism? Is it inevitable or can it be stopped? Questioning our Lifestyle?
