  2. Free Throw Provisions 1) The handbook identifies 8 free-throw rule violations. They are: Attempting the throw from outside the circle or from in front of the free-throw line. Failing to throw within 10 seconds Fail to throw the ball so that it enters the basket or touches the ring. Free-thrower having either foot across the vertical plane of that edge of the free-throw line. Failure on the part of lane-line players to properly occupy marked lane spaces, unless resumption of play is in effect. An opponent disconcerting the free thrower either verbally or by waving arms. Any player along the lane boundaries having either foot beyond the vertical plane of the outside edge of any lane boundary, or beyond the vertical plane of any edge of the space designated by a marked lane space mark or by a neutral-zone mark or any player not in one of the marked lane spaces breaking the plane of the free-throw line extended and the three point line.   3. Violations and Penalties 2) A1 is preparing to attempt a free throw. Prior to the release, B1 steps into the lane. A1 then requests a time out. You should: a. Grant the time out. b. Resume play after time out anddisregard previous violation. c. Resume play (free throw) with violation signal. d. If free throw is unsuccessful, charge time out to team B. e.   4. Violations and Penalties 3) As A1 starts the free throw motion, B1 raises his/her arms or with arms raised, opens and closes both hands. A1’s free throw attempt is an air ball. B1, who’s handling the throw-in steps over the boundary line prior to releasing the ball and commits a throw-in violation. A1, while on his back and to avoid a traveling call, puts the ball down on the floor, stands up, and then reaches back down and is the first to touch the ball. This is legal.
