  1. The main ideas of Marxist theory are class conflict and unequal distribution of power. Class Conflict/Unequal Distribution of Power: • Bourgeoisie- people considered upper class, wealthy, control everything • Proletariat- workers, do all the labor for nothing in return Marx believed ". . .the means of production (i.e., the basis of power in a society) should be placed in the hands those of those who actually operated them. He wrote that economic and political revolutions around the world would eventually place power in the hands of the masses, laborers" (Grudzina 67). Literature • Bourgeoisie use propaganda to make it seem like this society is the only way to live • Use novels and other works of art to manipulate the way the proletariat think and make the system look "attractive" • Bourgeoisie control all of the works of art and literature that get put into the society
