  1. Parent Meeting August 10th, 2010 Jacket Sing-Sations

What it means to be a Sing-Sation… • You have been selected based on not only your talent, but your self discipline, responsibility, and commitment to music • You act as ambassadors of your school and the entire Oxford City School system • You are an elite group of young musicians who are committed to musical excellence

  4. What is expected of you? • Attend all rehearsals and performances • Practice on your own time as well • Come to rehearsals and performances prepared • Have fun!

  5. Rehearsals • Most rehearsals will be after school. • DES on Tuesdays 3-4pm • CES on Thursdays 3-4pm • OES and CEH on Thursdays 3-4:30pm • *CEH students will be transported by bus to OES for rehearsals on Thursdays • We will meet once a month on a Thursday evening for a joint choir rehearsal @OES 5:30-7pm • Please refer to your calendar for exact dates. *Note that there will be one Tuesday evening rehearsal in April. • Please do your best to be on time for pick up at all rehearsals. We have other commitments after rehearsals. • If you lose your calendar, the rehearsal/performance schedule can be found on your school website.

  6. How to be prepared for rehearsals • Bring all music • Practice your music before your weekly rehearsal • Bring your instrument to all rehearsals • Bring a positive attitude into the rehearsal room!

  7. Peformances • Always bring your music and recorder to performances (unless your director tells you not to, i.e. football games, basketball games) • Be on time! • Wear proper attire • Have fun!

Jacket Sing-Sations’ Uniform Casual Performance Wear: • Black Polo Shirt (tucked in) • Khaki pants • Clean Shoes • Plain black belt • Blue Jeans will be worn to the AMEA festival only Dressy Performance Wear: Girls: Concert dresses, hosiery (flesh tone), black flats, hair pulled half up in a plain black barrette, no jewelry, make-up Boys: black slacks, black button-up shirt, black shoes, black socks, black belt, gold tie

  9. Uniforms cont. • Costume care • Alterations • Parents are responsible for damaged or lost costumes and music • Dressy costumes, music, folders and sweatshirts must be turned in at the end of the year. Report cards will be held until all items are returned.

  10. Hair and Make-Up (girls) • Hair should be clean and combed, worn half up in a plain black barrette. • Light Make-up • No jewelry allowed. • If funds allow we will purchase matching shoes for the girls. Otherwise plain, black flats should be worn.

  11. AMEA Festival Samford University • Friday, October 1st, 2010 • Buses will load at Oxford Elementary School at 7:00 am and will depart no later than 7:15am • Concert 6:30 pm • Students may need transportation home • Cost: money for dinner and souvenirs • Parents must sign students out with their music teacher • Attire: blue jeans, black polo, clean shoes • DVD’s will be available for 25.00 at the concert • All CES, DES, and OES students will attend. Only the top 10 for CEH can attend due to limited space.

  13. JSU Honor Choir • The JSU Honor Choir is for all students who are in the Jacket Sing-Sations. It will be held at Jacksonville State University on October 30th. The schedule for the day will be much like the AMEA festival. More information will be sent home at a later date.

  14. JSS Demerit System • One unexcused absence from rehearsal = 1 demerit • No music folder at rehearsal= 1 check mark • No recorder at rehearsal = 1 check mark • A total of 5 check marks = 1 demerit • Not in complete uniform for performance = 1 demerit • No folder at performance = ½ demerit • No recorder at performance = ½ demerit • Total 5 demerits = dismissal from the choir

  15. Attendance • Three unexcused absences from rehearsal = dismissal from the choir • Students must bring a written note or Doctor’s excuse to the next practice. If a note isn’t brought, it will be considered unexcused. • The only excused absence is illness. All other absences due to an emergency situation will be decided by Mrs. Luke or Mrs. Sisco. • One unexcused absence from a performance = dismissal from the choir

  16. Calendar • In your folder you will finda calendar of all rehearsals and performances. Please refer to this calendar often. If any other performances are added, your child will receive a note from Mrs. Luke or Mrs. Sisco in their Monday folders. The JSS year will end in after the Young Voices festival on May 6th and 7th.Auditions for next year’s group will begin the following week.

  17. Sign-Out Procedures • Students must be signed out by a parent/guardian after each rehearsal. Parents/Guardians must show photo id. • Students must be signed out at the AMEA festival by a parent or guardian showing photo id. OES and CEH students sign out with Mrs. Sisco. DES and CES students sign out with Mrs. Luke. • We will follow these sign-out procedures to ensure the protection of your child.

  18. Volunteers needed!!! • once a week to help with various tasks like copies, laminating, cutting, etc. for JSS and the general music classroom • Set design, props, costumes • Costume distribution and measuring (preferably a seamstress) • Volunteer committee • Gentlemen needed to help with carrying and setting up the sound equipment • Fundraising • Photography/Video • Publicity

  19. Parents Please Turn in Tonight: • Field trip permission form • Practice permission form • Bus transportation form – CEH students only • Contact information form (if you did not turn it in over the summer) • 50.00 fee *Make all checks payable to Oxford Elementary School* • Media Release forms (should have been turned in at orientation to homeroom teacher) If you have not turned this in, please let us know ASAP – the JSS are photographed and video-taped often, and each member MUST have this formed signed and turned in. • Costume care agreement form
