2. The classes taught in English: • English Class: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday • Writing Class: Tuesday • Reading Class: Thursday • Health Class:1 period per week • Art: 2 periods per week * Health Class is taught by Teacher Suzanne

3. Textbooks and materials for each class • English Class: All of us (student book), All of us (workbook) • Writing Class: Exploring Writing Plus Level 3 • Reading Class: Reading Comprehension Level E • Health Class: Health Education 6, Health Education 6 (activity book) • Art: no textbooks * The syllabus/schedule for English, Writing, and Reading Class will be uploaded on the class blog.

4. English Class Goal: To systematically cover all basic vocabulary, grammar, and functional language so that students acquire English naturally in the context of their daily lives. • Basic Thematic Vocabulary • Grammar • Sentence Patterns • Weekly Information Sheets

5. English Class (Continued) • Dividing of classes – some students need more repetition of the language. • Same work covered. • Same exam written.

6. Writing Class Goal : To use stories and workbook activities to improve and increase students writing abilities. • Building sentences – First learn the main idea of a sentence, then expand the sentences by using other parts of speech. • Building paragraphs – learn about revising, proofreading and self-evaluation. • Writing forms: narrative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, persuasion, letters and emails.

7. Reading Class Goal : to develop skills to understand what is being read • Fun stories. • Vocabulary words. • How language is used to convey thoughts. • Analytical and critical thinking.

8. Health Class Goal : to introduce positive association and learning experiences that will help develop in children good lifelong habits. • Healthy Growth • Eating Right • Healthy Lifestyle • Safety • Mental Health * Grade 6 Health is taught by Teacher Suzanne

9. Art Class Goal : developing fine motor skills, problem solving and creativity • Fun and artistic activities. • American/Taiwanese holiday themes. (Christmas, Halloween, Chinese New Year, etc.) • Recycled materials where possible.

10. Exams • First Exam: 10/17 & 10/18 • Midterm Exam: 12/2 & 12/3 • Final Exam: 1/9 & 1/10

11. Other activities • Face-to-Face (once per week) • Review English • Basic Conversation • English Day • Students must speak English all day • Please remind/encourage them!

12. Other activities (continue) • Daily Sentences • Monday-Thursday • 3 words each day – 5x • 1 sentence per word • 2 quotes per week – will not be tested • Friday - Spelling Quiz • The DWS score goes into the semester score for English

13. At home: • Homework/Review • Help your child to complete any homework/review activities • English Stories • Encourage them to read English stories • Speaking • Speak English at home as much as possible • Videos/Websites/TV Shows • Encourage them to watch/visit English TV/Websites • If subtitles aren't hard coded then replace them with English subtitles. Helps improve listening and reading.

14. Communication book: • To be used to communicate between English teacher and parents. • Will have up-to-date information! • English homework. • Has to be signed. • PLEASE use a plastic cover or laminate the book!
