4. Systemic infection • affects the entire body • fever • aches • chills • nausea • vomiting • weakness 2.02 Understand infection control procedures

5. Endogenous • Infection or disease originating within the body • Includes metabolic disorders, congenital abnormalities, tumors, and infections caused by microorganisms within the body • (endo- inside; genous- type or kind) 2.02 Understand infection control procedures

6. Exogenous • Infection or disease originating outside the body • Include pathogenic organisms that invade the body, radiation, chemical agents, trauma, electric shock and temperature extremes • (exo- outside; genous- type or kind) 2.02 Understand infection control procedures

7. Nosocomial infections • Hospital/Facility acquired • Transmitted by the HCP • Infection Control program –prevent and deal with these infections 2.02 Understand infection control procedures

8. Nosocomial infections • Many are antibiotic resistant and can cause life-threatening infections • Examples • Staphylococcus • Pseudomonas • Enterococci 2.02 Understand infection control procedures
