  1. Unit 5 What is my place in society?

  2. What is unit 5 about?? • What is my place in society? • How am I influenced by the media? • How do I influence the media? • What is my responsibility as a producer and consumer of media?

  3. Bell Ringer • Go look at your goals that are posted on the wall….Have you achieved the goal yet? If so…what will you do to continue being successful or if not, what will you do to complete this goal?

  4. DOL • Please complete the following pre-quiz that is in front of you….. • You are not getting a grade for this…it will only inform us of what you know and do not know

  5. Grammar: Comma Rule #1 • Use a comma to separate two adjectives (what is an adjective??) when the word and can be inserted between them. • Use a comma if the adjectives are equally important and give similar kinds of information. • Example: It was a cold, windy morning.

  6. How the heck do I know what words are equally important?? • Ask yourself if the words give a similar kind of information. • If you say yes….then they need a comma between them. • Similar or hell no, not similar?? • Crabby/dissatisfied • Frigid/fresh

  7. So if you said no….they are not similar then….. • Don’t use a comma if the adjectives are not equally important or give different kinds of information. • Example: He was a clever young man. • Hint: To check if adjectives give similar kinds of information or not, put and between the adjectives. (It was a cold and windy morning.) If adjectives give different kinds of information, the and between the adjectives doesn't sound right. (He was a clever and young man.)

  8. What?? You want to practice…ok =) • They slept under a warm fluffy quilt. (correct??)  • (It would be perfectly natural to describe the quilt as warm and fluffy.) There should be a comma • They slept on a cold, cement floor. (Correct?) •  (These adjectives should not be separated by a comma; if you inserted "and" between them, the result would be an unnatural construction.) No comma

  9. PROPAGANDA Please read the following article and create a definition of the term propaganda!

  10. Time to watch a video… • You do not need to take notes!!!

  11. Let’s review a few important terms • Propaganda- information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread to help or harm a person, group, or movement • Simply put, propaganda is anything meant to convince you to feel or act a certain way.
