  2. Why did Temple purchase fsaATLAS ? • The Department of Homeland Security requires universities to report specific information and events regarding international student populations. This was a result of the events of 9/11/2001 • fsaATLAS has a built-in interface to the central Homeland Security system SEVIS (student and exchange visitor information system) • The existing international student information system ‘i1440’ was no longer supported due to the fact that the vendor went out of business Educause Mid-Atlantic Conference Poster Session

What are major functions of fsaATLAS? • Import international student data from Temple student information system • Collect additional data from students • Export data automatically to SEVIS • Export data to Temple student information system for self service letter production. What task were performed during the system implementation project ? • Purchase system from SungardHE • Purchase and setup servers • Map data from i1440 to fsaATLAS • Migrate i1440 data to test server • Validate data • Develop and test interface from SIS • Configure and test SEVIS interface • Train end users • Perform security assessment Educause Mid-Atlantic Conference Poster Session

What staff roles are needed to implement the system? • Functional Lead : Director of International Services office • Technical Lead: System administrator from Temple Computer Services • Server Lead: install server, OS, backups, antivirus, SSL certificate. • Vendor project manager • SIS programmer: develop interface from SIS Educause Mid-Atlantic Conference Poster Session

  8. Lessons learned • Servers would not boot in early stage of project. Test hardware before implementation. • Sungard trainer/consultant was replaced • Campus Datalink file was tested several times before loaded into production system • VPN remote connection was helpful for Sungard installation. • Security assessment should be performed by computer security staff. • XML file training would be helpful. • SEVIS batch testing was needed on production system.
