History of Fashion • During the power of king Louis XVI between late 1600’s to 1700’s there was a great boost in the country’s economic power. • He ceased to import goods from other countries. • He encouraged French industries to be the biggest producers of silk, lace and other fabrics to export them throughout Europe.

More on Fashion • The first French fashion press was founded by Jean Donneau de Visé in 1600’s to advertise the clothing styles worn by members of the Royal French courts. • In 1945, the magazine ‘Elle’ was founded by Helene Lazareffe which is still one of the worlds most leading fashion magazine.

  4. Fashion Week • Paris is the home of fashion and each year fashion week is held in Paris. • There are four main fashion weeks across the world. Paris is known for ‘haute couture.’ • Hundreds of well known and newly found designers show of their outfits to the world • The first fashion week was held in Paris in 1973

What is ‘Haute Couture?’ • Haute Couture refers to the making of exclusive custom fitted clothing. • The outfit would be made from the most highest quality of fabric and finished by a highly skilled and experienced dressmaker. • You might want to know...   11. LOUIS VUITTON • - Louis Vuitton is a French fashion house • - It was founded in 1884 by Louis Vuitton • - LV designs goods such as jewellery, sunglasses, watches, handbags and shoes

  12. LV first designed a trunk, with a flat top and bottom so it could be easily stacked. Before this trunks had a curved top so water would slide off. • His new design meant that trunks could be easily stacked

  14. Christian Dior • Christian Dior set up his fashion retail on December 16th 1946 • His fashion retail is famous for clothes, bags and perfume. • The Dior labels still is mainly known for women’s clothes it doe have a section for men and baby Dior.

  15. Interesting Inventions • Denims jeans were invented in de Nimes in France . • Also the bikini was designed by Jacques Heim and Louis Reard in 1946. • It was first sold in a beach shop in Cannes, France.
