  2. Philosophy of Education • Philosophy Guidelines • Education is most effective when you are able to get your students attention every day, and help them learn something new. The way a teachers can achieve this is to be passionate about what they teach, and be able to manage a classroom well. The purpose of middle school education is to expand a child thinking from an elementary stand point, and prepare them to grow and be prepared for high school. Middle school education is the halfway point for students to learn more information about subjects like Math, Science, and Social Studies etc. It is very important for the students to pay attention at this level, because the information they learn here will really be useful at the next level and in the real world. • Students learn best when they are active and interested with the subject being taught. There are many ways to present information to students to get them interested in different subjects. Some examples to present this information would be using video clips, group discussion, hands on activities, and group presentation. These activities keep the students attention and it helps them learn through interaction and movement. I also feel students learn better under the condition they are being taught. When my teacher presents information enthusiastically their attitude makes me want to listen and learn about what she/he is trying to teach me. I feel it could work vice versa, if a teacher is boring then the students will be bored and will not listen or want show any participation.

  3. Philosophy of Education • All students have certain needs that must be met in the classroom for them to learn at his/her best. Not all students have the same learning style. Some students learn, visual, auditory, read/write, or kinesthetically. Also some students have different disorders that force them to accomplish work at a slower rate. We as future educators will need to be able to accommodate and modify our lesson plan for all of our students. All our students basic needs should be met so they can gain the full amount of information the other students are gaining. • As a teacher I would meet the need of my students by asking questions and observing my students. For example, if I see Jimmy in the back of the room squinting at the board, and flunking his quizzes, I will move him to the front of the class. I would also ask my students to let me know how they learn the best. This will allow me to set up my class to fit all the students learning ability. This will help me get the best out of my students. I would also look at other strategies on the internet, or just ask other teachers how they meet their students need. The information from a veteran on the job would be really useful, because they have experience in meeting different student’s needs. • The curriculum of a middle school student should include learning about certain basics. The basic that should be taught are English, Math, Social Studies, Health, Science, and electives. These subjects help the student’s development in social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative growth. This is important because these things help our students when they get into the real world. The teacher should also be very familiar with the curriculum so they will have many ideas to present this information to the students.

  4. Philosophy of Education • An effective learning style environment starts with an effective teacher. The teacher should be able to govern their class through great instructions, activities, discipline, and a good curriculum. The learning environment will also be effective if the students are comfortable and relaxed with their teacher. The students look up to a teacher so we should always be professional at all times. I feel that the teachers are second to family with being the role model for students and that make me want to always do right by students. When the students become more comfortable with the teacher they will began to listen more to the information you present them with. When I began to teach these guidelines will be my philosophy for managing my classroom.

Before The First Day Of School • Make sure all paper work is turned into the district • Get all the materials needed for class (calendars, syllabus, maps, books, pens, pencil, paper) • Find my classroom • Get a student supply list • Get a list of students in the class • Go over the curriculum guide for the year • Mark my objectives for each day in my calendar for each class • Go over the student hand book, policy hand book, and procedure handbook • Make a discipline plan • Let the principal view the discipline plan • Get all the students’ work book prepared for class • Read the teacher manual • Arrange layout of the class

Before The First Day of School • Learn where everything is in the school • Get to know other teachers in the school and gain ideas from them • Find out what to do in a school crisis or big emergency • Find out what information is needed for the office • Get familiar with the community • Get to know the district/school website • Prepare record tool for keeping attendance and grades • Get to know my mentor teacher • Participate in all district summer in-services as possible • Hang my teaching certificate in the classroom • Make sure to pack my brief case with all important documents for class • Plan and time route to school • Have clothes laid out • Get to bed early

First Day of School • Get a good breakfast • Get to school early • Make sure I have enough copies of the syllabus for the whole class • Put My name on the Board to show them what I want to be called • Greet the students at the door • Make sure everyone gets in the class and gets situated • Have a seating chart with student’s names on the desk • Class introduction – Tell the students my name, and a little information about myself . Then we will go around the classroom, and learn some information about each person in the classroom.

First Day of School • Discuss the syllabus • Attendance • Tardiness Policy • School Rules • Grading Policy • Award System • Homework Expectations • Use of classroom equipment • Lunch Procedures • End of the day dismissal • Give out the materials they need from me (Books, Maps, Handouts) • Let them know the expectations for the class • Dismiss the class

  12. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Enter the classroom with all supplies. Make sure you have all your supplies so when you come to class, you will not have to ask everyone for supplies interrupting the class.

  13. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Enter the classroom under control. Do not enter the classroom loudly and out of control. Make sure you come in class calm and ready to learn. Leave the noise outside.

  14. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Turn in any work in the homework cubby before you sit down. All work will be considered late when I start teaching, and everyone is sitting down.

  15. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Check the board for today’s objectives. When the students come in they will know what we will be doing in the classroom and what they need for today’s lesson by checking the board.

  16. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • If you need to get my attention, raise your hand. I do not want my students just to answer questions and talk out loud. They will need to raise their hands to get my attention to keep the noise level down.

  17. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • In case of an emergency come to me immediately. If there is an emergency, this is when there is no time for you to raise your hand to get my attention. I want you to come tell me.

  18. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Ask for the hall pass if you need to use the restroom. This is usually what you need to have when you use the bathrooms in most schools to let teachers know you have the right to be in the hallway.

  19. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • When I raise my hand and say “quiet in the house”, I want all student’s to be quiet and give me their attention. This is the way for me to let the class know they are getting too loud, or I need them to stop what they are doing and listen to me.

  20. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • No side conversations while I am talking. This is to let the students know that I want their full attention, and they should not be talking while I am talking.

  21. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Sharpen pencils before class starts. Sharpening pencils during class can cause a distraction in the class, so I want the students to do this before class starts.

  22. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Always have something to do if you finish your assignment early besides talking. There will be times when a student finishes their work early in the classroom. I want them to have something to do while the other students finish his/her work so they will not be a distraction to the other students.

I want the students to know that they should always come check with me before they leave class to make sure they know what to do for the next class if they are unsure about the assignments.

  24. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • If the classroom has Mac book computers, make sure that there are two people per computer. There will be two people at one computer, because it is easier to monitor the class if it is two per computer.

  25. Every Day Routine and Classroom Procedures • Emergency drills (Tornadoes, Earthquake, Flooding). I want the student’s to know what to do in case of server weather, while we are in the classroom. This will help me keep the student’s calm, and in order in case of these emergencies.

If my supplies are not returned by the end of class no one will get to leave the class. This will make sure the student’s put all my supply back, and we will not run out of supplies.

Discipline Plan • Classroom Rules • No Fighting • No Food or Drinks • No Cheating • No Talking while the teacher is talking • Raise your hand for permission to do anything unless it is an emergency • Treat all materials and people in the room with respect • I will determine the main rules in the classroom by the student’s behavior. I will involve the students in rule making, and I will also consult with my principal and fellow peers about classroom rules • I will establish my consequences by giving out strikes. The students will only be allowed to get three strikes.

Discipline Plan • Consequence System • Strike one is just a strike • Strike two you get a write up and have to write a reflection • Strike three you get sent to the office, and your parent will be contacted • Reward System • Students who end the month with no strikes will have a party or something special they want to do for a reward. We will have a suggestion box for the students to put ideas in for what they get for good behavior.

Discipline Plan • Practice Procedures • We will practice procedures, rules, and consequences in the first week of school so the students will understand what to expect for the rest of the school year. • Contacting Parent and Students • The way I will communicate with the parents is through sent home letters, emails, and phone. The students will have to take the rules, procedures, and reward system home and get it signed by a guardian for their first grade in the class. I will also email this information to all the parents. For students who do not bring these forms in, their parents will bee receiving a phone call from me.

  40. Discipline Plan • Identifying Bad Behavior • I will have a sheet of paper on the board with all the students’ names, and there will be three boxes beside the names. Depending on the behavior is how I will address the student. If it is minor misbehavior, I will just pull the student to the side. If it is some very bad behavior, I will address the student in a verbal announcement. Then I will mark the box on the sheet of paper. • Communicating with the Parent about bad behavior • The parent will be notified if the student is on strike three or the behavior being displayed is very bad. • Communicating with the office about bad behavior • The office will be contacted on strike two or three. Strike two is a write up, and the office will get the write up. Strike three the student gets sent to the office.

Discipline Plan • Contact with the student • When none of these strategies work for the student, I will let the student know that they will be removed from the classroom for the rest of the year if they do not straighten up. Give them another contract specifically for them and lay down the final rules set for that certain student

  43. Forming Partnerships with Parents • I will contact each parent at least twice a month. If the student has behavior problems then the number of contact will increase. • I will communicate with the parents on the phone or through email. • I will be communicating good and bad events with the parents. • I do not want to coordinate my consequences with the parents, because I do not wont the parents to fill I am questioning the way they raise their kid.

  50. Records, Assessment and Documentation • Set up files for handouts, tests, student information, important information from the district, and important information from your principal. • Write down names of students who are misbehaving. If the student’s get to bad send them to the office.
