The Four-Step Career and Job Search Process Explore I: Assess Explore II: Research & Target Package Pursue • Review possible occupations • Check out sector and market conditions and future prognosis • Select top two or three career targets • Identify top 10 to 25 companies per target • Chart closest network groups and contacts • Design your positioning per target; 30 sec elevator pitch • Develop one minute, branded career narrative • Design and hone 3 to 5 top PARs • Write targeted resumes, brochures, and cover letters • Practice networking and interviewing skills: intro/PARs, behavioral, case/ scenarios, using research for persuasive questions • Network with your contacts to review your resume/cover/pitch • Ask them for additional contacts and access points, e.g. events, websites • Seek out new contacts in target field to review your resume/cover/pitch • Stay in touch with contacts: follow-up, thank you’s • Keep networking and interviewing until you’ve accepted a position • Identify your core values and Career Anchors • Myers Briggs Type Assessment • Career Leader Skill Category Assessment • Financial Realities • Personal history/performance assessment • Ideal Job Design
