Belmont Financial Group Attends International Fraud Conference In Hong Kong
1888 Press Release - Andrew King (Belmont Financial Group) Speaks At International Fraud Conference In Hong Kong.
Andrew King, Senior Analyst at Belmont Financial Group, recently participated in a discussion at a Fraud, Asset Tracing & Recovery conference in Hong Kong, regarding the location and recovery of proceeds of fraud and corruption into key offshore jurisdictions.
Andrew King spoke alongside a number of leading offshore financiers and lawyers about the information that can be obtained from public sources in asset tracing cases, how to navigate confidentiality legislation and the process of freezing, confiscating and recovering proceeds from fraud. The conversation was particularly topical following the recent FIFA scandal regarding misappropriation of funds, thought to have been used to influence decisions in world football.
Mr. King commented, "(FIFA President) Sepp Blatter and (former) President Thabo Mbeki felt they were above the law, that they could hide their fraudulent activity from the world. The corruption charges filed against them, and 14 others, prove they were wrong. The misappropriated funds have been recovered, and we as an industry strive to ensure justice is served. We must work exceptionally hard to guarantee we continue to triumph over fraudulent activity."
The panel discussion was part of a 2-day conference discussing innovative strategies in an era of global fraud, with a particular focus on Asia.
Ethan Jones, Senior Portfolio Manager at Belmont Financial Group, said after the event, "I was extremely pleased that Belmont was given the opportunity to speak at the Fraud, Asset Tracing and Recovery conference in Hong Kong. In a globalised and digital world, fraud has entered a whole new era, and it's important for the financial industry to stay on top of the latest developments. The conference was an excellent opportunity to do just this, and we were happy to be part of it."
