HOW ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP ‘EM • Reach out to your students • Email, call, send them a letter before classes begin • Contact them more than once • Send them your syllabus • Announce the class start dates on Bb • Use social media Engage your students • Don’t lecture entire class time • Have an interactive activity • Explain classroom expectations • Check roster to determine if everything is correct including designated major.

RETENTION STRATEGIES • Find out what fears and/or concerns your students have and address them • Find out what other classes they are taking • Be sure to encourage them to be aware of important drop/withdrawal dates, esp. for MTE classes • Be sure you know how to use the technology • Remember, you asked to be an SDV instructor! It is your responsibility to walk the walk.

Career exploration and development • LEARNING OUTCOME: • Students will be able to identify a potential career and articulate steps needed to achieve their career goals. • LEARNING OBJECTIVES: • Students will select or confirm their preferred program of study based on their career exploration. • Students will articulate the steps they need to take in order to achieve their career goals. • Through the use of Virginia Education Wizard and other career assessments, students will articulate a potential career based on their interests, values, and abilities.

How do you get them there? • Interest Assessments • Values Assessments • Career Assessments • Browse Careers by Name • Search specific careers by name to learn more about them, including real-time information about jobs availability and market-specific salaries. • Browse Careers by Cluster • Start with a group of related careers and dig deeper to find specific careers.
