Group Readiness • Is there anyone here today that is in the midst of a current or recent loss and grieving? • Is death a depressing or uncomfortable topic to deal with? • Who has their personal Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare done? • Who has their aftercare plans already taken care of? • Who has planned, presided, or participated in a funeral? • What did you come to learn as a novice, or as an experienced minister with past challenges/joys?

  5. Types of Death • Pre Natal • Child • Spouse • Parent • Pet • Random act of violence, accident, war • Suicide • Disease (Young or Old) • Anticipated or Sudden • Friend or Community Member • Believer in an afterlife or Unknown

What would you be doing today if you had a death in your family or congregation yesterday? • Was their a pre-arranged plan to follow? • Immediate comfort and Pastoral Care Needs • Addressing the “To Do” List (Attachments) • Service Planning (Attachments) • Funeral vs. Memorial • Graveside or Cremation • Documents and Reporting • Referrals to Professionals (Legal, Financial, Psychosocial) • Follow Up Ministry
