  2. What is Zoology? • The study of Animals. • It is a subset of the broad discipline of biology. • Biology is the study of life. • Let’s create a concept map of what we think we will study in Zoology.

  3. Zoology covers? • Entomology (the study of insects) to Ornithology (the study of birds) • Animals are intimately linked to their environments. Ecology is the study of this relationship.

  4. How is Zoology Structured? • The current system was developed by Karl von Linne. • It is binomial nomenclature. • Everything is given a name, consisting of a genus and a species.

  5. Taxonomy- the science of classifying plants and animals • Kingdom • Phylum • Class • Order • Family • Genus • Species
