SUPERNOVA

By: Georgi Georgiev

Supernova1
Supernova:

  • A supernova is a stellar explosion that creates an extremely luminous object that is initially made of plasma—an ionized form of matter.

Ways of formation
Ways of formation:

  • FROM A MASSIVE STAR (by ceasing to generate energy)

  • FROM A WHITE DWARF (with another star by accumulating material either through acceleration or through collision)

Role of supernova
ROLE of supernova:

  • To enrich the interstellar medium with heavy elements.

  • The expanding shock wave from the explosion can trigger the formation of new stars.

Types of supernova
Types of supernova:

  • Type la light curve 

  • Type lb

  • Type lc

  • Type II light curve 

  • Type IIP

  • Type IIL
