The bio-electricity project • The KITOMONDO-PLANTATION Ltd prepared a six year project for a Learning Demo Farm, producing BIO-Oil for generator (and tractors) in poor rural areas, with a detailed working program • The proposed project is here drafted for the main points as base for a deep discussion with the government departments • The results obtained in this project could be of much help in the definition of a government strategy and policy on this new agriculture and environmental business

  5. The full cycle • Oil crops production(jatropha and honge for oil; moringa as fertilizer; neem as pesticide) • Bio-oil production • Electricity production through adapted diesel engines • Bio-oil as fuel for adapted tractors • By products utilization (substitute charcoal)

  6. Dissemination of know how, knowledge and best practices • Permanent learning school on site for 20 people per two week course (500 person per year) • Easy reading leaflets for villagers • Technical reports • Seeds, plants and equipment available on site

  7. Personnel required 1 chair 12 management staff (accountant, agronomist, mechanical engineers, safety, environment, PR) 3 teachers 20 workers for cultivation 5 workers for oil production 3 drivers 6 guards 11 general services TOTAL 61

Timing 6 years in total (7th for final reporting) From time zero: personnel selection, contracts with diesel engine companies, land preparation, seeds selection, infrastructures, machinery purchase. From 1st y engine modification and adaptation to SVO Form 3 rd y harvesting, oil prod, testing with engine on site From 5 th y complete cycle testing 4-5-6 th ys learning school courses (500 per year,in total 1500 persons) 7 th y final reporting

Expected benefits • Short term availability of electricity in all rural areas of Tanzania • Short term robust development of poor areas • Low intensity investment required • Zero CO2 emission cycle • No food competition • Support to agriculture with pumping water and tractors • Availability of charcoal without deforestation • No need for large infrastructures • Stopping urbanization • Utilization of poor useless land • Zero short and long term impact on environment • Preparing the future for Tanzania as bio-oil export country

Conclusions Jatropha, Honge (Moringa and Neem) as new energy source Short term result: development of poor area through village scale units for electricity production and agriculture machinery Medium term result: make Tanzania independent from oil import Long term result: make Tanzania a bio-oil export country
