  3. 2. Mission • The main goal of the Youth Empowerment Action is to integrate all children from the street back into society and their homes. • SLOGAN: Don’t make beggars of our people

Background of YEA • History • Children are begging and living on the streets  work with families of disorientated youth (parenting skills) • children needs an safe and healthy environment  Integrating into society and homes • Preventive approach • Charity is not a structural solution for poverty, education is!

  7. 4.1.Streetwork • walk once or twice a week to identify if there are children on the street • Early intervention (PDP) • Profile streetworker: - a trained laycouncillor employed by us - a substitute mother for the children who’s parents are absent due to emotional reasons

Potential development Programme • Goal: develop the potentiol of children trough constructive means (play, dance, drama, arts and crafs,…) • Daily after school programme for all the children (14h30-16h) • Teaches life skills and provides a safe and healthy environment for recreation and learning • prevention

The president’s awards • a registered non-profit organization, which has been operating  in South Africa since 1983 • The core is based on self-development. • The programme consists of skill development, physical recreation, community service and the adventurous journey. • Empowered youth can make considered choices. • To reach the different goals for the youth to receive their bronze, silver or golden award, we organizes a camp on a yearly basis.

  10. 4.4. Family in focus • FIF, a subsidiary of YEA, focuses on families with children between 0 and 6 years old. • FIF is a project of FCW, the Western Cape Foundation for Community Work. FCW supports the FIF employees by trainings and materials. • Homevisits to get the children at the same level as children that goes to a creche.

  12. 4.5 YESprogramme • Youth Empowerment Scheme is an intervention programme for youth at risk developed by the National Institute for Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO) • 8 sessions with different themes • Each session starts with an icebreaker and goes on with a variation of games and discussions. • Assist youth to make wise decisions and to enjoy a happy childhood

  13. 4.6. Holiday programme • A full-day programme we run every school holiday • Teach the children life skills and expose them to sports, arts and crafts, compassion work,...

  14. 4.7. casework • The social worker • doing home visits within the community and, if necessary, sets up programmes to help children and/or families in need.

  15. 4.8. Traumaroom • trauma assistants in the police station • primary service where abused children get therapeutic support • Qualify as trauma assistent: to do a training of 8 sessions

  16. 4.9. Afterschoolcare • Homework assistence for primary and secundary schoolchildren • Create a learning culture, empower them • from 14.30 p.m till 16 p.m
