Graphite. Before you begin, consider the following. Technique. Are you looking for a smooth finish? OR Are you wanting to leave some directional/contour lines?. This drawing has good, subtle directional line quality. The line quality is too flat and the values are too close.

  3. Technique Are you looking for a smooth finish? OR Are you wanting to leave some directional/contour lines?

  4. This drawing has good, subtle directional line quality.

  5. The line quality is too flat and the values are too close.

  6. Get somedetail!

  7. This would be considered a gesture drawing. It is lacking in detail.

  8. Composition

  9. Make it interesting

  10. Lighting

  11. Light source

  12. Contrast Use the full VALUE SCALE and more than one pencil.

  13. This piece is lacking in VALUE, therefore the CONTRAST is too low making for a flat looking drawing

  14. Implied lines The top of this skull exist because there is a shadow BEHIND and UNDER the skull

  15. Snake? Draw what you see. Embellish only the values.

  16. So use consistent Technique

  17. DETAIL DETAIL!! DETAIL!

  18. Contrast
