  1. Green class trip 2011

  2. Why a Residential? • Enhance curricular and recreational opportunities for our pupils • Provide a wider range of experiences for our pupils than could be provided on the school site alone • Promote the independence of our children as learners, and enable them to grow and develop in new learning environments

  3. SETTING OUT! 2004 Green Class Trip to the Chalet de Peyranére,Col du Somport. We know the centre well – our first ever trip in 2004 was to this centre. I thinkthisis about the 24th residential trip the ISB Primary School has run.

  4. SiTTING WITH FRIENDS Theydon’t have to, but childrenmaychoose to bring a travelgame, a book, or even a Nintendo DS to playwithfriends!

  5. Unpacking! Whenwe arrive, children carry theirthings (with a little help!) and unpackinto the roomsthey have chosen. It helps if they have helped to pack theirbags – sothey know whatthey’vegot! NAME LABELS ON EVERYTHING!

  6. Breakfast Childreneat breakfast together– they have to takeresponsibility for some of the organisation and tidying!

  7. The dining room This isprobably the mostluxurious of the five centres we’vevisited. Our teachers supervise the childrenatmealtimes and theyeat in the same room.

  8. After breakfast – gettingready for an activity Gettingready for a schoolmorningisalways a challenge – the childrenwill return with new skills to make life easier! The main photo isat Somport, but wastakenduring a Ski Trip – it’srepresentative of how weget the childrenready to go!

  9. A visit to the animal park It’s fun learningtogether. For mostactivitieswe split intotwo groups.

  10. At the entrance to the animal park All excursions are organised and led by the professional centre. Our teachersalwaysaccompanyour groups.

  11. Meeting the wildlife

  12. The thrill of a ‘midnightwalk!’ The teacherswill do there best to makeit fun – but itwasn’treallymidnight!

  13. A visit to the fishfarm Seeing how agriculture works and how foodisproduced This yearit’s to a Dairy to see how Cheeseis made.

  14. Listeningskills Learning in a differentenvironmentimprovesskills. Expert guides explainwell.

  15. Feeding the fish Unique opportunitiesabound

  16. Return to the bus Trips are organised and controlled – safetyisparamount.

  17. Mountainbiking! (for older ks2 children) The groups are carefullymonitored and controlled. As withskiingactivites, safetyhelmets are provided, but childrenmaychoose to bringtheirown if youprefer. The instructors are used to leading groups of children in thisenvironment. It’s not a problem if a childcan’t ride a bike, theyjoin the other group.

  18. Eveningactivities In the evenings the groups relaxes together. In the past, ourteachers have run talent shows! Somechildrenenjoyed the ‘optional’ ghost stories!

  19. Disco The 2nd Night Disco isalwayspopular

  20. Tired - but happy! The trip will test children’senergy and endurance – we’dlike to think of it as character building!

  21. Why This Time of Year? • Good for helping classes to bond • When a trip takes place right at the end of a year, thereis a sensethatmany of the benefits are lost to the class
