  3. What is TurningPoint and why is it useful • What • Classroom response system that electronically collects data and information through the use of clickers • Why • Promotes interaction and participation within a classroom setting • Allows for anonymous contributions amongst students

  4. A complete system of hardware and software • Supported as a standard by a UB team including: • Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) • Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS) • UB Bookstore

What are clickers and ResponseWare? • An interactive technology • Clickers are small handheld devices resembling a remote control. • ResponseWare allows students to answer clicker questions using any Smart device or laptop with internet access. And how do they work? • Clickers communicate with a receiver set to a specific channel • An instructor asks a question and the students respond Channel 42

Steps to Adoption- For Faculty • Download software from www.turningtechnologies.com • Notify the bookstore when you place your textbook order that you are planning on using clickers- orders for clickers should be placed well in advance of the semester • E-mail ubclicks@buffalo.edu to request a ResponseWare account. • Build new presentations or modify pre-existing presentations to include clicker questions • Incorporate reasons for using clickers as well as guidelines for students about clicker use into your syllabus More help for faculty can be found at: http://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/service-guides/teaching-technology/teaching-services-for-faculty/ub-clicks.html

Steps to Adoption- For Students • Students will purchase a clicker or a ResponseWare license at the bookstore or online at www.turningtechnologies.com using the school code UBUF • Students then register on UBlearns with their device ID • In the classroom, students will then set their clickers to the correct channel or login to the ResponseWare session to answer questions • More help for students can be found at: http://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/service-guides/teaching-technology/learning-resources-for-students/ubclicks.html

  13. UBlearns Integration • Students must register their clicker in UBlearns first • Download (Import) the participant list • Select the list • Students use Clickers to submit answers • Upload (Export) results • Upload results into a column in Grade Center

  14. Tips for Success • Begin slowly • Establish learning objectives • Know the pedagogical function of the question • Use clickers to enhance lessons • Allow technology to compliment the lesson, as opposed to interrupting or overwhelming the lesson’s purpose
