Your student will share the poster with our class.

  8. Snacks • Daily Snacks • My students are welcome to bring a healthy snack each day. Crackers, fruit, carrot sticks, etc. are great! No sweets (like candy) please!  • Birthday • Remember that homemade birthday treats are NOT allowed. However, pencils, erasers, and stickers are always treasured by my students – and easier for me! 

  9. Volunteering and Contact Information • Volunteers • LISD has upgraded the Volunteer Criminal History software program. All volunteers need to go online at www.lisd.net to fill out a background check in order to serve as a volunteer. This must be done every 3 years in order to stay current within LISD. You are appreciated, thank you! • You MUST have a background check to do ANYTHING at OSE or LISD schools. This includes, but is not limited to lunch, class parties, etc. If you plan on having student’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. here for lunch or class parties, they too, will need to have a background check on file! • In addition, lunch visitors (other than legal guardians) will need written permission to bring lunch to your student!!! • Raptor System- The front office will need your driver’s license to scan as you sign into the building! • Communication • My e-mail is waltere@lisd.net • My voicemail is (972) 350-3034 • Website (oldsettlers.lisd.net) Under Academics, Grade Levels, 2nd Grade

  10. Dress Code • Just a reminder that students are required to follow the LISD dress code. Please be conscious of what your child is wearing for the school day. You can refer to the student handbook for any questions. • Please know that a change of shoes for PE cuts into class/gym time. Please send your child dressed correctly for PE on their assigned day.

  11. Daily Schedule • 7:50 – 9:25 Math • 9:25 – 10:10 Specials/Conference • 10:10 – 11:30 English/Language Arts/Social Studies • 11:30 – 12:30 Lunch/Recess • 12:30– 1:55 English/Language Arts/Social Studies • 1:55 – 2:50 Science

  12. Arrival/Dismissal • Morning Arrival • Students are welcome into the school building at 7:20am. Second graders are to sit in the cafeteria (monitored by teachers) until 7:40am. Class begin at 7:50am. If your child is tardy, he/she must visit the office for a tardy slip. • Afternoon Dismissal • If there is ever a change from your child’s normal mode of transportation home, I must have a written note OR you must call the office and ask that they get the message to me. • Dismissal is at 2:50pm (Single Car Riders=Side Cafeteria doors, Carpool Riders= Front doors)

  13. Breakfast/Lunch • Breakfast is $1.00 and lunch is $2.10 • Having a lunch card is easier than sending in money each day (cards can be purchased on the school website, before 7:50am at OSE, or by check/cash sent in an envelope to me with the student’s name on the front) • You are more than welcome to leave things your child might have left at home in the front office. They will notify me via e-mail that it has been left in the office drawer system they have set up. • The girls in the front will not interrupt our class to let us know of the items left at the front. Please know that I will get the message during the day!

  14. Textbooks • 2nd grade has a variety of textbooks that we use in our classroom • We have asked that students bring in 4 Jumbo/Extra Large stretchy book covers (standard/regular size will NOT work because the books are too big and will not stay closed). If you cannot find them, or wish not to purchase them, the books can be covered with paper book covers at your convenience.

  15. Spelling • Students will be on different lists and may switch rooms for spelling instruction/testing. • Spelling lists and sorts will go home every Monday. • Please practice these words and the spelling pattern each week. • Students will take a spelling test (words and sorts) each Friday. • Words will be graded based on correct spelling and letter formation • Sorts will be graded based on correct spelling pattern

  16. Grading • We are moving to a 9 week grading period! • Late Work is a non-issue! Please contact me if you have a special circumstance! • I will re-teach all concepts that are not mastered. • Students will be given an opportunity to correct or retake tests for a 70% • Grades below a 70% in daily work will not be replaced

  17. Field Trips • 2nd grade will hopefully take a total of two field trips during the year (Fall and Spring) • We appreciate volunteers to be Parent Chaperones on our Field Trips. Please know that though we would love to take every volunteer, sometimes we are limited in the number we are allowed to take. We will let you know as time get’s closer how many parent volunteers we are in need of. Thanks for your help and understanding in advance!
