What is I-BEST? • Integrated Basic Education Skills Training • Integrated means two teachers in one classroom for most courses. • Skills Teacher (content) • ESL/GED Teacher • I-BEST emphasizes a cohort model as a learning community (where all students attend all classes together) • Research shows this is an essential aspect of successful college students

  4. What is I-BEST? • Your CASAS scores need to be 230+ in: • Math • Reading • Listening/Speaking

More about I-BEST • All books and classes are in English • The content is at the College Level • Classes are for College Credit • You must come and participate in class every day and do the assigned homework. • When you have completed all requirements during the two terms, you receive a Business Technology Department Office Skills I Certificate

  6. Business Technology-Office Skills I • This program is for you if you need: • Basic computer and office skills • Business skills • Interviewing/job professionalism • College coursework skills such as: • word processing • keyboarding • spreadsheets • spelling • basic business English

Business Technology Classes • Module I includes (14 hours per week): • BTEC082 – Professional Spelling and Proofreading Skills • 2 cr. hrs. • BTEC100 – Keyboarding • 3 cr. hrs. • BTEC105 – Beginning Computer Fundamentals • 3 cr. hrs. • BTEC135 – Ten-Key Calculator • 1 cr. hr. • GED071 – I-BEST Support • 5 hours

Business Technology Classes • Module II includes (13 hours per week): • BTEC087 – Applied Office English • 3 cr. hrs. • BTEC131 – Filing and Records Management • 3 cr. hrs. • BTEC147 – Professional Self-Development (Interviewing, resume’ writing, professionalism) • 2 cr. hrs. • GED071 – I-BEST Support • 5 hours

  9. Business Technology Classes • For each credit hour in class, you will likely spend 2 or more hours outside of class • First term: 9 credit hours (18+ hours outside class) • Second term: 8 credit hours (16+ hours outside class)

  10. Business Technology-Office Skills I Benefits • Computer skills are foundational in almost all 21st century jobs • Jobs are available in a wide variety of business areas • Earn up to 18 college credits in two quarters • Daytime classes – finish in approximately six months
