  1. ERAS 2010 – the Electronic Residency Application Service – was created to enhancemedical students’ transition to residencyby reducing the amount of time spenton the residency application process

ERAS 2010 Using the Internet, ERAS transmits the following documents from applicants and medical schools to residency program directors: • Residency applications • Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE -aka, your Dean’s letter) • Transcripts and • Other supporting credentials

  3. ERAS OVERVIEW ERAS is made up of four essential components: • MyERAS • Dean’s Office Workstation (DWS) • ERAS PostOffice • Program Director’s Workstation (PDWS)

ERAS OVERVIEW MyERAS: The Web site you will use to: • Complete your Common Application Form (CAF) • Request Letters of Recommendation (LoRs) • Order your scores fromthe Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) • Order your scores fromtheUnited States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) • Select programs and assign documents to the programs to which you are applying

  5. ERAS OVERVIEW Dean’s Office Workstation (DWS) The office which scans and attaches: • Your medical school transcript • Your MSPE • LoRs to your electronic file For OU-COM students the DWS is our office, the Office of Student Affairs

  6. ERAS OVERVIEW ERAS PostOffice: • The DWS (our office) transmits all the documents to the PostOffice via the Internet • The PostOffice sends the documents to the programs to which you are applying

  7. ERAS OVERVIEW Program Director’s Workstation (PDWS): • Used by the programs where you are applying to download the application materials to review and sort the application pool

Preparing for ERAS NOW: • Request letters of recommendation • Complete a cover sheet for your letters END OF SPRING/DURING SUMMER QUARTER: • Check your grades online www.ohio.edu/registrar/info/apps/mygrades.html • Order your official medical school transcript www.ohio.edu/registrar/transcri.cfm • All of your documents are compiled as we receive them

  10. Preparing for ERAS JUNE: • Complete your Token Application • Submit to the Office of Student Affairs http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/saffairs/ERAS/2010Token%20Application.pdf JULY 1: • Complete your ERAS Application • Transmit to Program http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/guideline/start.htm

  11. Your Dean’s Letter • Letters for the class of 2010 are already being drafted • We need your Curriculum Vitae (CV) !! • As we finalize your MSPE, you will receive a draft copy to review (carefully) and return to the Office of Student Affairs

ERAS TIMELINES(DATES) IN PARENTHESIS AREBASED ON THE 2008-2009 DEADLINES 2009-2010 DATES SHOULD BE POSTED EARLY JUNEhttp://www.aamc.org/students/eras/timeline/start.htm LATE JUNE: • The Applicant User Guide is available online. • Student Affairs will generate your electronic token. JULY 1: • Register on the MyERAS Web site and complete your application. • Select and apply to osteopathic training programs. • Select allopathic programs; cannot apply to allopathic programs prior to September 1.

  13. ERAS TIMELINES, cont’d. JULY (15): • Osteopathic training programs may begin downloading application materials from the ERAS PostOffice. SEPTEMBER (1): • Transmit your applications to the PostOffice for allopathic residency programs. OCTOBER (15) • MSPEs are released at 12:01 a.m. to AOA programs. NOVEMBER (1) • MSPEs are released at 12:01 a.m. to ACGME programs.

  15. AOA Intern/Resident Registration Programhttp://www.natmatch.com/aoairp The AOA has implemented the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) for you to use to apply to programs. ERAS is a separate and distinct service from the Match. ERAS is used by students to apply to programs, while the Match determines the final placement of Students into programs. Information on the use of ERAS and applying to osteopathic programs is available on the AOA’s web site at www.do-online.org.

AOA Intern/Resident Registration Programhttp://www.natmatch.com/aoairp The Intern/Resident Registration Program (the "Match") is sponsored and supervised by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and administered on behalf of the AOA by the National Matching Services Inc. You must register directly with NMS to be eligible for participation in The Match. (see NMS Timeline) The Match provides an orderly process to help students obtain positions of their choice, and to help programs obtain students of their choice.

National Matching Service Timelines(DATES) IN PARENTHESIS AREBASED ON THE 2008-2009 DEADLINES 2009-2010 DATES SHOULD BE POSTED EARLY JUNE http://www.natmatch.com/aoairp JULY 2009 – JANUARY 2010 • You must apply to programs Independently of the Match. • Programs receive applications and interview students independently of the Match. • Application deadlines for programs vary; therefore, you should check with programs regarding their deadline dates.

Results of the Match are released toall participants in the Match (students and programs), as well as to the colleges of osteopathic medicine and OPTIs. Programs must complete a contract for each matched student, and send it within 10 Working days after receipt of the Match results to the student for signature. Each matched student must sign and return the contract To the program within 30 days After receiving it. OCTOBER (10), 2009 • Recommended date by which you Should return your Agreements and registration fees to National Matching Services Inc. NOVEMBER (1), 2009 • A Listing of Programs participating in the Match will be available at: http://www.natmatch.com/

  19. National Matching Service Timelines, cont’d. NOVEMBER (26), 2009 • Instructions for submitting Rank Order Lists and obtaining Match results will be provided to registered students and programs. JANUARY (23), 2010 • Final date for submission of student and program Rank Order Lists. No Rank Order Lists or Agreements can be accepted after this date.

FEBRUARY (9), 2010 • Results of the Match are released to all participants in the Match (students and programs), as well as to the colleges of osteopathic medicine and OPTIs. Programs must complete a contract for each matched student, and send it within 10 Working days after receipt of the Match results to the student for signature.
