Understanding Your Credit Check 23 total units for graduation 4 units of LA 4 units of Math 4 units of Science 3 units of Social Studies 3 units of CTAE/Foreign Lang/Fine Art/Tech Health and Lifetime Fitness 4 elective credits **Math and Science classes earned in 8th grade do count towards graduation. However, students who do not take 4 years of Math or Science may not perform as well on the SAT/ACT and may not be seen as competitive for college admission

Excerpts from Junior Contract: If a student is missing a required course for graduation, the student cannot participate in the graduation ceremony and … A July graduation ceremony is available to students that attend a GCPS summer school and complete their graduation requirements. If you choose to complete your requirements through any non-GCPS program, you cannot participate in the July graduation ceremony. If a student failed a required test but has completed all other graduation requirements, the student can participate in the graduation ceremony and will receive a High School Certificate in place of a the High School Diploma. The diploma is awarded upon successful completion of all required tests.

  15. Quest Internship Only for Gifted Students GCPS will help the student find an internship for based on their interests. Junior Year *Complete your junior credit evaluation with your counselor. *Register to take the SAT/ACT *Research careers online or by talking to your counselor, teachers, parents, and professionals in the community. *Request and review materials that colleges send you. *Research/apply for scholarships. *Attend college fairs *Keep your grades up.

Senior Year *Complete the Senior Application for Graduation with your Counselor. *Register to take (retake) the SAT/ACT *Complete college applications by Thanksgiving (recommended) *Request paper copy of transcripts from MVHS ($5.00 for each through MPP) * If we have your SSN, you may request electronic transcripts on Gafutures for FREE to go to any GA public college. *Attend the Senior Parent meeting in fall. *Attend the Financial Aid meeting Nov 1st at 6pm during the college fair.

  25. PAYING FOR COLLEGE / TECHNICAL SCHOOL Financial Aid – income based. FAFSA. Application opens October 1st and is based off of two years of tax returns. Scholarships – criteria varies depending on the scholarship. The Hope Scholarship - check state website for updates. Hope GPA on GaFutures website. The Hope Grant– Technical schools only – check state website for updates. Maintain a 2.0 post-secondary gpa to maintain eligibility Zell Miller Scholarship- 3.7 Hope GPA, 1200 SAT/ Zell Miller Grant- Technical Schools only- maintain a 3.5 post-secondary GPA to maintain eligibility Hope Career Grant Out of Pocket
