  2. Today’s plan • Greeting • Rules Wrap-up • Euclid and Constructions • Lab: GeoGebra • Lab: Set up Khan Academy accounts • Clean-up

  3. Homework / Supplies Check • Take out: • 3 colors of pen/pencil • Paper • Notebook/binder • Compass • Ruler • Protractor • Have them ready for me to check while you work.

  4. Rules (~2 min) • Read the list • Identify sentences that are saying the same thing • Decide which is better, or if you would phrase it differently • Cross out rules you don’t want to keep

  5. Rules – Groups (~2 min) • Discuss your choices • Mark or circle rules you want to keep as-is • Write new versions of any that need changing

Constructions &Equilateral triangles • Equilateral triangle: one whose sides are all of equal length (and angles are all of equal size) • Task: • Draw a line segment of length 12cm using your ruler; label its ends A and B. • Set your compass to the length of the segment, and draw an arc centered at A, then another arc centered at B. • Label the intersection point C. Bonus: If that wasreally easy, try a regularhexagon (i.e., one whosesides are all equal).

  9. Constructions &Equilateral Triangles • This was a construction: a figure designed to satisfy given conditions. • This diagram’s condition: all sides are of equal length. • “Construct” usually means using a compass and a straightedge.

  10. Lab • Construction in GeoGebra • Khan Academy •  “Log In” •  “Log in to Khan Academy with Google” • Use your Kirby student email address to log in

  11. HomeworkDue before class Thu/Fri by email • Go to the class websitehttp://jjohnson.kirby.org/ • Click “Geometry” and do “Assignment 0”.

  12. Clean-up / Reminders • Pick up all trash / items. • Push in chairs (at front and back tables). • See you tomorrow!
