  4. What is polarity? • molecule with two poles (+ and -) caused by unequal sharing of electrons

  5. Non-Polar Covalent • tug of war between shared e- and + nucleus • e- are shared equally • atoms in the bond pull equally • H2, O2, Diatomic atoms

  6. Polar Covalent • e- are shared UNEQUALLY in the bond • more electronegative element attracts more e- (-) while other element (+) • one end (+) and one end (-) • H2O, NH3

  7. Attractive Forces • TYPES OF ATTRACTIONS – NOT TRUE BONDS • Some molecules or parts of molecules are attracted to others and held together by forces of attraction but are not bonded.
