  1. Closing the Lesson This is where students must prove that they have learned the new content.

  2. Closing the Lesson “Students, I want to make sure you are completely prepared for the assignment before I hand it out.”

  3. Closing the Lesson During the Lesson Closure, you have reached the last component of an EDI lesson before students start to work by themselves.

  4. Closing the Lesson During Lesson Closure, students work problems or answer questions to prove that they learned the content they were just taught. It is really just a CFU.

  5. Why is it important? Closing the Lesson You don’t actually assign IP until the students prove they know how to do it. You don’t want students to practice or memorize misperceptions of the content. So you can identify students that need additional help.

  6. Closing the Lesson Aim for 80%-100% success during Closure before you assign IP.

  7. Closing the Lesson. What is it? Can my students correctly describe the Concept I just taught them? Can my students tell me why it is Important to learn the information I just taught them? Can my students successfully execute the Skill I just taught them?

  8. Closing the Lesson Lesson Closure is directly connected to GP in that you MUST have 80% success rate!

  9. Closing the Lesson. An example LO-Interpret Author’s use of similes Concept-Students what is a simile? Importance-Why is it important to be able to analyze similes? Skill-Look at this simile. I have on the overhead. Write the letter of the answer on you whiteboards.

  10. Planning for success BEFORE you teach What is done before the lesson is taught is an important contributor to student success. Lesson design Anticipating difficult areas for students

  11. Predesign lessons for success. When you use an EDI lesson you are already addressing the most important factor regarding student success: You are writing a lesson predesigned to generate student success.

  12. Predesign lessons for success. You have an LO Your IP is synchronized with the LO You write a bullet proof definition of the concepts you are teaching Throughout the lesson you teach your students exactly what they are expected to do

  13. Anticipate difficult areas for your students You MUST look over the material before you teach to anticipate “problem” areas.

  14. Plan for success during the lesson: Modify so students will be successful The most important thing to remember during a lesson is to modify your teaching according to your students’ responses during CFU. Don’t try to speed the lesson. This should be based on CFU.

  15. Plan for success after the lesson: Modify at closure. If students are not successful during Closure, you need to make a strategic decision. Remember, the purpose of Closure is to measure if you students are ready for IP. Avoid the temptation to give the IP before they have proven that they are ready. If need be, continue the lesson the next day with modifications.

  16. Use in class and out of class interventions appropriately. Students that were not successful during the lesson are provided additional help. You DON’T want to reateach your whole class but rather target the ones that didn’t “get it.”

  17. Closing the Lesson “Students, I want to make sure you are completely prepared for the assignment before I hand it out.”
