  4. Sample Questions: What do you think this student scored? 1 Why? Reasonable answer but does not provide evidence from the passage.

  5. Sample Questions: What do you think this student scored? 2 Why? Reasonable answer and includes evidence from the passage.

  6. Sample Questions: What do you think this student scored? 1 Why? -Reasonable answer but incomplete -Only one detail from the text (the other detail was made up by the student)

  7. Sample Questions: What do you think this student scored? 2 Why? Reasonable answer and includes 2 details from the passage.

  8. Sample Questions: What do you think this student scored? 0 Why? • -Gives an explanation but doesn’t make sense. • Made up by the student. • No details from the text.

  9. Let’s Practice Read the following question: What real-life lesson might be learned from this passage? Give a detail from the passage to support your answer. Now, read your story, ZOO, with this question in mind and write your answer on the piece of paper you were given.

  10. Let’s Practice Read the following question: What evidence is there that the speaker of the poem feels some regret about his choice? Use at least two details from the poem to support your answer. Now, read your poem with this question in mind and write your answer on the piece of paper you were given.

  11. Remember: • It’s helpful to read the questions before reading the text. • Short answer questions will expect you to UNDERSTAND the text. • If you don’t understand the text, go • back and read it again. • Remember, if your test is not timed, slow your pace down and be VERY careful! Why not? • Don’t lose focus- remember the seriousness of this test for you, your school, and your parish!
