What is EPAS? • ACT family of assessments • Explore (8th grade) • Predictor of high school readiness • PLAN (10th grade) • Predictor of ACT performance • ACT (11th grade) • Predictor of college readiness • State-required administration of EPAS for all students • Late September: Explore/PLAN • March: ACT • Maximum scores: 25 Explore, 32 PLAN, 36 ACT

Accountability • Included in state accountability system prior to Senate Bill 1 • Accountability returns this year with Unbridled Learning: College and/or Career Readiness for All • Middle: The percent of students meeting EXPLORE benchmarks in reading (15), English (13) and mathematics (17) will be averaged and count 16% of middle school accountability as the “college readiness percentage”. • High: Reading and Math “growth” from PLAN to ACT counts 20% of high school accountability • Variations in Accountability: • 2009-2010 and beyond: scores include all students tested at that school; 2011-2012 will be adjusted later to include only 100 day students • 2006-2008 scores: students coded back to count for the school where they spent at least 100 instructional days in the prior school year under No Child Left Behind.

  4. LaRue Co. Middle scored higher than the state in every area. The greatest difference was in math where 8th graders scored 1.5 higher than state scores; English 1.4 higher.

  5. LaRue is in the top 11% of districts overall. The highest ranking is in Math where LaRue is ranked 10th. LaRue scored as well or better than 94% of all KY districts in Math.

LCMS Explore Trend, 2007-2011 (Ave. Score) • Explore trend data for LCMS shows a positive trend line in all areas. • Most significant gain in English where LCMS has gained 2.1 over the five year period. • One year growth • English + 1.6 • Math + 1.0 • Reading + 0.6 • Science + 0.6 • Comp. +0.9

  7. LaRue Co. Middle scored higher than the state in all content areas. The greatest difference was in Math where 8th graders scored 17.7% higher than state scores. English was the highest score at 60.6%.

  11. LaRue Co. High scored as high or higher than the state in all areas. For LCHS, 10th graders outscored the state by 0.6 in English and 0.5 in Math.

  12. LaRue is in the top 34% of districts overall. The highest sub-score percentile is in Math where LaRue scored as well or better than 74% of all KY districts. 2nd is English at 71%.

LCHS PLAN Trend, 2007-2011 (Ave. Score) • PLAN trend data for LCHS shows a positive trend line in all areas with drops this year in English, Math, Reading, and Composite. • Most significant gain in English where LCHS has gained 1.7 over the five year period; 1.3 in Math. • One year growth • English - 0.2 • Math - 0.2 • Reading - 0.9 • Science + 0.2 • Comp. - 0.3

  14. LaRue Co. High scored higher than the state in two of the four areas. The greatest difference was in English where 10th graders scored 10.3% higher than state scores; Math at 3.0% higher. English was the highest score at 73.3%.
