Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 BRAZIL CCS ROUNDTABLE Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 Update on CCS Interest Activity • The main interest is develop and adapt technologies (CCTs for CCUS) suitable for local conditions using low cost options; • Develop capacity building programs, Clean Coal Research Center and networks for R&D; • Add value to coal R&D for high value products including CTL; • Increase partnership: Geologic Service(CPRM), Petrobras, Eletrobras, private companies, universities network and international partnerships (NETL, etc) • The Coal Industry is doing its voluntary contribution and looking ahead with actions: • Coal and Oil network to develop technologies for Carbon Capture and Storage is being started; • Brazilian Coal Association (ABCM) is a member of GCCSI; • International and Brazilian Conferences on CCS and Climate Change; THERE ARE TWO CCS PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT BY SATC Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014

Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 BRAZIL CCS ROUNDTABLE Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 Brazil CCS Roundtable Rio de Janeiro, 11 April 2014 • Capacity Building Program in CCS • Three technical courses in Brazil (two have been applied and another for next July; • 5 Brazilian Researchers participating of a practical training in U.S. Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory-NETL in such areas: Synthesis of sorbents, CFD modeling, Process modeling, Design of CO2 reactors and Chemical looping process operation in lab/pilot scale. USD$ 277,455.00 30 months – Sep, 2014 • CO2 Capture from Coal Combustion Laboratorial Infrastructure, Synthesis and Tests of New Sorbents. • Carbon capture laboratory at SATC able to synthesize sorbents, perform analytical tests and install lab/pilot scale facilities; • Sorbent development for CO2 capture: zeolites and enriched amine by coal fly ash; • Experimental tests for carbon capture using the new synthesized sorbents in packed bed reactor; • Detailed design of a bench scale/lab unit for carbon capture using a moving bed Temperature Swing Adsorption (TSA) process.
