  17. Divergent Thinking starter activityThink, Question, Explore, Reflect:Complete these 4 tasks in your VOCAB/CONCEPTS book 1. Think of an everyday object or topic and brainstorm a list of 6 or more questions about it. 2. Look over the list and transform some of the questions into questions that challenge the imagination. • What would it be like if… • How would it be different if… • Suppose that ... • What would change if … • How would it look differently if … 3. Circle ONE question from #2 to imaginatively explore. Write and explain 2 ways you could do this. BE SPECIFIC with the different directions could you take. 4. Reflect: What new ideas do you have about the topic, concept or object that you didn’t have before?

  18. Example of Think, Question, Explore, Reflect Answers 1. Umbrella • Who invented the umbrella? • When was it invented? • Why do I never have my umbrella when I most need it? • Why do they break so easily? • How many umbrellas do I own? • Why does the handle have a curve on the end? 2. -What would it be like if my umbrella had a cellphone in the handle. (or my cellphone turned into an umbrella) -How would it be different if it rained fire? -Suppose that I owned 100 umbrellas… -What would change if umbrellas were never invented? -How would it look differently if people were allergic to rain water? • -I could create a Facebook fan page for people who are allergic to rain water where people can talk about the different ways they cope with their allergy. -Design some kind of high tech body coverage to better protect against rain. 4. There probably are people who ARE allergic to rainwater. What chemicals are in in our rain water and how can they affect our health. The umbrella is a very old invention: Why has no one invented a more popular and better umbrella in all these years?
