  3. Henna is a flowering plant used since antiquity to dye skin, hair, fingernails, leather and wool. The name is also used for dye preparations derived from the plant, and for the art of Mehndi.

  4. Mehndi is a ceremonial art form which originated in ancient India. Intricate patterns of mehndi (henna in Western cultures) are typically applied to brides before wedding ceremonies.

  5. Invented Texture Hand Design • On a page in your sketchbook work out a sketch which includes the outline or contours of at least two life-sized hands. Don’t trace. • You will complete your final design on art paper that you may get from Mr. Morris. • An interesting design is one that includes two hands interacting in some way. They may be the hands of one person or two. • Use your imagination and invented textures to fill the hand shape(s). Include at least three different motifs. (A motif is a unit in a repeated pattern such as the dots in polka dots) • Use invented textures that give the viewer an impression of the person’s personality or of the circumstance. • You may include a background if needed for your design. • Suggested media: color pencil, marker, color paper, magazine cut-outs, yarn, • Project grade
