  1. A brief introduction of SDSS II data Liu Chengze Shanghai Astronomical Observatory

  2. SDSS I: April 2000~June 2005 • EDR-DR5 • SDSS II: July 2005~2008 • Legacy Survey • Sloan Extension for Galactic Understanding and Exploration (SEGUE) • Supernova Survey

  3. Legacy Survey • 7,500 square degrees Northern Sky • 740 square degrees Southern Galactic Cap • spectra of 860,000 galaxies and 105,000 quasars.

  4. SEGUE • map the structure of the Milky Way Galaxy. • 3,500 square degrees of new imaging: • some on a regular grid through the Galactic Plane • some sampling structures like the Sagittarius Dwarf Tidal Stream. • 240,000 star spectra(400 plates) • WD; A/BHB; G; KG; LM; AGB; MK; MD; CWD: Cool White Dwarf; FSD: F turnoff and sub-dwarf star • known open cluster; Sag. dwarf stream; Monoceros Ring structure

  5. SEGUE

  6. Black lines: SDSS regular imaging. Red line: Sagittarius dwarf tidal stream Magenta lines: Monoceros dwarf tidal stream ( cross M31.) Blue circles: Galactic structure plate pairs Yellow circles: 'special plates’ Green: completed until Oct. 1

  7. SEGUE data: spectra • http://www-sdss.fnal.gov/yanny/seguets • 144 plates (counts) • ~100 have 1d spectra • ~90 plates have been processed (seinfo*) • position, proper motion, radial velocity, [Fe/H], Teff, distance (estimates based on type) • http://www-sdss.fnal.gov/spectroRoot/ 3w_live/plateList.html • 178 plates Oct 27 • 1d spectra • http://das.sdss.org/data/dp30.a/data/spectro/2d_23/

  8. SEGUE data: imaging • 50% in March • http://www-sdss.fnal.gov/index.shtml"Data Processing: Status" "List of Imaging Runs" (2006.10.23) • http://www-sdss.fnal.gov/skent/run.par • stripe > 200 .and. stripe = 72, 79, 90 • CAS, DAS
