  2. What is a Step Team ? A step team is a dance team that uses hands, feet, and other body parts to create rhythm and beats!

  3. Why Do We Step? • Our Motto is…Step Higher! • We step to: • build character (responsibility and team-building) and self-esteem! • show our commitment to our school and teammates. • make new friends. • exercise in a fun way!

  4. Attendance • You are making a commitment by choice to be on this team. You are expected to come to practice every week. • I will let you know if there are any changes to the practice schedule. • You are allowed to miss 3 practices (with a parent note). If you miss more than 3 practices, you will be asked to find another after school activity.

  5. Practice Schedule • 3:30- 3:45 Go to the bathroom after school, find your seat in room 11, and eat a snack that you brought from home. • 3:45 -4:00 Get into formation to review and practice a previously learned step • 4:00-4:15 Learn a new step • 4:15- 4:20 A quick water break • 4:20-4:40 Practice the new step • 4:40-4:45 Review all steps and get reminders

  6. Correct Clothing for Practice • Wear pants or shorts • Wear thick soled sneakers or hard soled boots • DO NOT WEAR • Skirts • Thin-soled shoes like flip-flips or keds • Crocks

  7. Performance • We will practice 1 time each week to get ready for an end-of-the-year performance. • We will perform in front of the school and possibly in front of another audience (TBD). • The performances will be held in March and May (this may change)

  8. Uniform • Our uniform will be a custom-made shirt that you will get to keep. • We will wear the shirt on top and blue jeans on the bottom. • Please give a $5 donation by February to cover the cost of the uniform shirts.

  9. End-of-the-Year Party • To attend the end-of-the-year party you must: • Work hard at each practice! • Have a positive attitude at practice • Practice on your own at home! • Attend most practices. You cannot miss more than 3! • Perform in all performances with the team

  10. Perfect Practice! • We only meet once a week, which is not enough. You need to: • Practice hard at practice! • Practice at home! • Practice at recess! • Practice while you are walking home! • Practice with a buddy on the weekends! • Practice at home with your sister if she is on the team with you! • Practice in your dreams, while you brush your teeth, and while you’re standing at the bus stop.

  11. Tentative Practice SchedulePlease come to practice on these dates!!! • November: 9, 16, 23, 30 • December: 7, 14, 21 • January:4, 11, 18, 25 • February: 1, 8, 15, 22 • March: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 • April: 5, 12, 26 • May: 3, 10, 17 • End-of-the-Year Party: May 24th
