  2. WHY HE IS IMPORTANT? • He is important because he found land for us to visit and live on. • He brought back lots of things for us, such as nutmeg, velvets This is a picture of Raleigh and his brother.

  3. Fact File • Born in 1552. • He found south America • He was one of the greatest servants to Elizabeth I • He was the first man to grow potatoes • He died in 1618 in October

  4. Food Supplies • The food wasn't very nice for the sailors. They ate: • Biscuits • Beer • Salt beef • Salt fish • Butter • Cheese • The sailors put the fish and beef in the salt. This helped to keep the food fresh.

  5. Supplies Taken on Board • They took: • Wood, coal, candles, wax, lanterns, platters, dishes, bowls, buckets, scoops, taper candles, shovels, compasses, lamps, water casks, hoops of iron.

  6. Jobs on the ship • When the storm comes they clean the deck with buckets and mops • Bring the food and put the sails up • Put the gunpowder in the canons

  7. The treasures • They thought the new world would be packed with treasure • He would have been really rich when they sold treasures back home. • He made lots of money for the queen

  8. Life on board • Life on board was very boring as they had no entertainment • They had no games except singing. Raleigh’s crew would dance to their songs. • They all had the same food over and over again. They’ll probably be wondering what they’ll find and what kind of food do they have in the New World.

  9. Discoveries • In Ireland he found spices such as peppers, nutmeg and chillies. • He found tobacco and potatoes • He found treasure and jewellery • Raleigh found South America • Raleigh went to Ireland, Spain and America
