INTRODUCTIONS Experience – • Taught 17 years grades 1-5 Education – • B.A. in Liberal Studies, CSUN • California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (k-8) • C.L.A.D. certificate • Masters in Teaching Leadership with emphasis on National Board Certification • California Science Training – 2009 • Smart board Technology Training 2006 – 2010 • Professional Learning Communities - 2012

  4. About the Teacher – • Married for 18 years to Ed • 2 children – Arlee and Chris • 2 dogs –Buddy and Dusty • Hobbies – reading, singing and music, scrap booking, Greek folk dancing, cooking, desert and beach camping • Lived in Temecula for 13 years

Year at a Glance • Language Arts program – Houghton Mifflin reading series, Core literature, shared reading, guided reading, reading groups, phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling • Writing program – Fetzer system, Step Up to Writing, H.M series, teacher created materials • Math – IXL program, workbook, manipulatives, games, centers • Science – Harcourt series • Social Studies – Scotts Foresman series with supplementals and Scholastic News • Creative Arts – Meet the Masters – once a month plus teacher created projects • P.E. – 2 days a week w/ the First Grade Team • Computer Technology – Weekly visits to the computer lab - Thursday • Library – school library weekly visits - Monday

  6. Volunteers Needed – please sign up for days and times • Room Parent or parents • Meet the Masters • Weekly Teacher Assistants • Classroom management work • Scholastic Book Orders – on line • Any artists, musicians or special talents interested in sharing with the students?

Homework • Homework – will come home on Mondays with a cover letter explaining assignments. • Parents, please make homework a top priority by scheduling 20 to 30 minutes each day for your child to read, math, and writing. Homework is scheduled Monday – Thursday evening. Homework assignments need to be submitted to the teacher first thing in the morning. Children need routine and structure to be successful. • Rationale for assigning Homework: • Homework is important because it teaches responsibility and helps students develop good study habits. In addition, homework helps to reinforce lessons that have been learned in class, and helps prepare students for upcoming lessons and tests.

  8. Behavior and Attendance Expectations Behavioral Expectations Mrs. Papadopoulos’ Big Three Must Dos: 1. Respect all at the school 2. Make good decisions 3. Be a problem solver Use of color system – If child goes orange or red I will contact you.

Classroom Schedule • 8:55– Morning Activities • 9:10 – Morning Meeting • 9:30 – 12:15 - Language Arts – phonics, word work, shared and guided reading, reading groups, centers, handwriting (printing), Writer’s workshop, sustained silent reading practice(stamina) • 10:45 – Recess • Language Arts continued • 12:15 to 12:55 – Lunch • 12:55 – Story Time -Teacher Read A Loud/Silent Reading • 1:15 – Math Instruction • 2:00 – 2:45 – Science/Social Studies • 3:20 - Dismissal

  10. Classroom Schedule Continues • Mondays – Library 1:00 to 1:45 • Tuesday – P.E. - Fast Laps – 2:45 to 3:15 • Wednesday – 1:00 dismissal • Thursday – P.E. Group Lessons – 2:45 to 3:15 • Computer Lab – Thursdays 1:00 • Meet the Masters – once a month
