Golden letter delivers scheme subsidy • HAND delivered after 12 years of waiting – the letter confirming a $10.75 million Government subsidy for the Maketu-Little Waihi Wastewater Scheme was an occasion worth celebrating. • Western Bay of Plenty District Council staff and councillors received the letter from Rotorua electorate MP Todd McClay at a special gathering at the Seaside Cafe in Maketu last month. The letter was delivered on behalf of Health Minister and Bay of Plenty MP, Tony Ryall. Ross

Project Update Loveridge Drainage Ltd - Reticulation • On-site meetings with property owners. • Reticulation construction has been completed in Catchment 2 ~ Arawa Avenue, top of Town Point Road, Rauporoa Road, Williamson Crescent, Ngaparaoa Drive, Kiokio Place, Whenuariri Place and Catchment 3 ~ Lyndhurst Avenue & Bledisloe Park. • Raising Mains construction has been completed from Pump Stations 1 & 2 up to the Treatment Plant. Project Update Spartan Construction – Treatment Plant • Completed site stripping – no archaeological findings of significance • Started civil works on Treatment Plant Site • Reviewing 95% Design Report from AWT • Most proprietary & long lead equipment has been ordered • Scheduled plant “start-up” – 5 December 2011 Joe

Project Update Ecoflow – Pump supply • 1st 40ft container ~ 320 pump units has been ordered • Delivery on-site is scheduled for 18 November 2011 City Care Electrical – Run Pump power supply cable • Contractor has started site visits running a power supply cable from the main distribution board out to the location of the control panel Joe

  14. Multiple Dwellings • Each identified multiple dwelling will be rated an extra Wastewater charge per dwelling to the property owner • A separate dwelling is classified as ~ any structure having a kitchen, bathroom, toilet and bedroom(s) i.e. Self-contained Joe

Multiple Dwellings • Properties identified as having multiple dwellings on them will be sent a letter outlining the rating scheme & process for rebuttal • Residents will have to write to council stating the actual use of such structure i.e. sleep-out, family accommodation etc., signed by a Justice of the Peace Joe

  18. Land Owner Entry Consents • Currently 500 have been sent out & 333 returned • Jade is chasing up those that haven’t been returned • Must get all owners signatures (the challenge) • On-site consultations are scheduled as soon as LOEC’s come back Joe

New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) • NZHPT were in attendance of a meeting at Whakaue Marae in Maketu on the 8th August 2011 • This meeting was to address tangata whenua issues and concerns • Further consultation with all local iwi/hapu is planned • Ngati Makino • Ngati Whakaue ki Maketu • Te Arawa Lakes Trust • Ngati Pikiao Joe

Vandalism triggers alternative security measures • SECURITY problems at the Maketu-Little Waihi Wastewater Scheme treatment plant construction site and lay-down area on Arawa Avenue have triggered ongoing on-site monitoring and additional protection measures. • Overnight vandalism of equipment and vehicles as well as the siphoning of diesel was a regular occurrence at the start of the project, prompting contractors to arrange alternative overnight storage of their machinery. Look ahead – September & October 2011 • Reticulation and boundary kit installation virtually completed in Catchment Three (Lyndhurst Avenue and Bledisloe Park camping ground) and Catchment Two (Town Point Road, Williamson Avenue, Rua moana Place, Arawa Avenue, Ngaparaoa Place, Whenuariri Place and Kiokio Place). • Letters will be going out to property owners with multiple dwellings on single lots to inform residents of the criteria around what constitutes a separate dwelling and subsequent charging for each additional dwelling. Look ahead – September & October 2011 • Properties classified as having multiple dwelling(s) will be charged the standard Wastewater UAC per dwelling. • Boundary kits are being installed in each catchment. There is one boundary kit per grinder pump and these are being installed outside the boundary of each property. Joe

  25. Look ahead – September & October 2011 • Treatment Plant construction has begun on-site in Arawa Avenue. This work is being done by Spartan Construction. Earthworks began in early August and the plant will be commissioned in December 2011. • Land Owner Entry Consent forms are still urgently required from those property owners who have not yet returned these forms to the Project Office. Please fill them in as soon as possible and return them to Jade Steiner at the Project Office in the Maketu Community Centre. Joe
