  2. Objectives • At the end of this lecture the student will be able to: • Identify the stages of illness &the role of the nurse during each stage. • Describe the significance of the patient’s need for onclusion,control &affection during his or her adaptation to illness.

  3. Cont. • Specify nursing strategies that are appropriate for assisting patient to develop & maintain a positive self image &body image. • Explain the emotions of anxiety, anger,hostility&grief.

  4. Cont. • Use nursing process as framework for care of the patient with emotional reaction to illness& treatment. • Assess the significance of role changes that result from illness. • Identify nursing action that promote effective coping strategies.
