  1. About GI Tools NOW • Image correction extension for ArcGIS 10 • Access to over 50 commercial satellites • Automated correction of imported imagery using vector or raster (imagery) reference data • Much faster and more accurate than manual correction in ArcGIS 10 • The next GI Tools release (Q1 2011) will include SAR processing tools for ArcGIS 10 • Geoimaging applications, new tools • Driven by the needs of ArcGIS users NEXT FUTURE

  2. Why Do ArcGIS Users Need GI Tools? Sensors Access a much larger number of satellite sensors in ArcGIS 10 Accuracy High precision image correction for alignment and processing Simplicity ArcGIS 10 extension, automated identification of imagery types Savings Georeference your imagery in ArcGIS in minutes, not hours

  3. GI Tools Brings More Sensors to ArcGIS GI Tools Provides Rigorous Correction of Imagery Products

  4. GI Tools Uses a Simple ArcGIS Interface • GI Tools interface enables: • Automated importing of raw satellite scenes – we find/identify the files and sensor types • Geo-correcting raw scenes by automatically finding control points • Formatting the corrected imagery for processing in ArcGIS 10 • Models for ArcGIS are included

  5. How GI Tools Gets the Job Done • Show GI Tools where to find the imagery folder • It will figure out what type of imagery is there and prepare it for processing DEM • Choose your reference (DEM, vectors, rasters) • GI Tools will use it as a georeference for the imagery you need to correct Vector Raster • GI Tools automatically finds common points in the imagery and reference and corrects the imagery • Faster and more accurate than doing so manually • Rigorous ortho correction – not simple “warping” • The corrected imagery is in the form needed by ArcGIS for further use and analysis • Image overlays, feature extraction…

  6. GI Tools Demo Scenario Correct Spot 4 Imagery Using Reference Vector Data • You are an ArcGIS 10 user working a HADR project mapping fire boundaries • You have been given Spot 4 imagery that has useful content, but it is not spatially accurate • You have 20 minutes to align the Spot 4 imagery with an accurate road vector dataset that you have downloaded • Accuracy counts in fire applications and you’ve never done this before – feels bad • Luckily you have PCI’s GI Tools extension installed… and you were awake for most of our demo…You can do this!

  7. GI Tools Demo Details • Spot 4 Imagery • 10 images collected over Kelowna, BC • Total coverage = 36,000 km2 • Corrections • Spot 4 Images are corrected using the high accuracy road vector reference • We can also correct Spot 4 to our LandSat 7 reference imagery (Plan B if we didn’t have accurate vector data) • Processing Steps • Read in imagery • Automatically generate controls • Correct the imagery • Send to ArcGIS 10 mosaic dataset

  8. Now the demo results…

  9. Open GI Tools Using the ArcGIS GP Tools Interface LandSat Reference Image Road vector Reference

  10. Import the Spot 4 Imagery into ArcGIS Using GI Tools Folder where raw scenes are stored Folder used to temporarily store images in an appropriate format during processing

  11. GI Tools Shows the Metadata for Each Imported Image

  12. The First Imagery Correction Step Is to Add a DEM
