  3. Kids need a minimum of 30 minutes exercise everyday – do you do that? Did you know that one step uses 200 muscles– wow! That’s a lot! You only use 17 to smile See it’s easy to get that amount of exercise if you walk to and from school – smiling!

Walking just half a km every day to school saves about 500kg of greenhouse pollution every year • Half of all car journeys are only 3 km – how close to school do you live? • Cars are responsible for nearly one fifth of household greenhouse gas emissions How does walking to school help the environment?

  6. Walking To School 1.   Stop, look and listen. 2.   Don’t try to cross the road between parked cars. 3.Never cross at a bend.

  7. Walking To School 4.      If there is a footpath - use it! 5.If there is no footpath, walk on the right hand side of the road, facing on-coming traffic and keeping as close as possible to the side of the road. 6.      Walk in single file if the road is narrow or there is heavy traffic.

  8. Cycling To School • Make sure that other people on the road can easily see you. • Wear a reflective belt and bright clothes. • You should wear a helmet. Wear it correctly at all times with the chinstrap buckled. • You should ride in single file to avoid overcrowding the road. You should not try stunt riding or giving passenger lifts.

  9. Remember – always hold an adult’s hand when crossing roads Stop – Look – Listen and Think before you cross the road. WALK don’t RUN And…..let’s say all together Active kids are healthy kids!
