  3. Water Baptism is Symbolism • Burial and resurrection (Rom 6:1-10) • Into death; we die to sin and our sin nature • Into His resurrection; freedom and new life in Him and for Him! • Crossing the Red Sea (1 Cor. 10:1-2) • Circumcision (OT) (Col 2:11-12)

  4. Water Baptism is Symbolism The flood (1 Peter 3:20-21) 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—

  8. Water Baptism Timing? • Believer’s baptism • Acts 8:36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” • Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’

  9. Beginning of His Earthly Ministry • Jesus’ preparation: • Baptized • Spirit filled • Spirit led • Prayed and fasted • Time w/ God • Self-denial • Had to overcome temptation

  10. Acts 2:38-41 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

  11. Acts 2:38-41 40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
