LEED Certification for Buildings

Since 2006-07 the district has pursued LEED certification for its new facilities


LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

  • Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council

  • Benchmark for design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings


LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

  • Achieving this goal does present budgetary considerations

  • Results in “green” benefits at each stage of the building process

What is aVernal Pool?

  • Depression that collects seasonal rainwater, bringing dormant plants and animals to life

  • Beneath is layer of hardpan soil – in our case from Cretaceous period (65 – 1.8 mya)

  • Developed by Miramar College AS Food & Culture Club

  • Question: Would you buy produce from a farm stand

    on campus?

  • Results: Within 48 hours, 92 respondents said “Yes.”

  • Best time for the stand: Tuesdays, 12-3 PM
