  7. Petroleum research • Exploration • Reservoir characterization • Enhanced oil recovery • Gas hydrates

  8. Mission statement Our mission is to continue being an international leading centre for developing fundamental knowledge aimed at maximizing recovery and increasing recoverable reserves in existing oil and gas fields. Main challenges Integration of disciplinary subsurface petroleum research is the key fundament of CIPR, and crucial to fulfilling our mission. CIPR

  9. Facts about CIPR Joint research focus UoB/Uni Research Personnel resources • 70 researchers involved • 40 PhD candidates • 40 master students Education and publications (2003-2012) Number of master students incl. current: 164 Number of PhD candidates incl. current: 83 Journal publications: 628 Other publications: 1294

Petroleum education • Master’s Programme in Earth Sciences • Petroleum Geoscience • Master’s Programme in Petroleum Technology • Reservoir Chemistry • Reservoir Geology • Reservoir Geophysics • Reservoir Mechanics • Reservoir Physics • > 75 active PhD students • Bachelor’s Programme in Geosciences • Bachelor’s Programme in Petroleum and Process Technology

  12. Renewable energy and CCS Interdisciplinary focus on energy research and education -Wind power - CO2 storage - Geothermal - Bio fuels - Tidal waves and currents - Fuel cells - Solar power UiB has expertise that can contribute to finding solutions. One of the major global challenges of our society is related to the need for sustainable and secure energy. Research and education across disciplines is important in order to meet future energy needs. University in Bergen http://www.uib.no/matnat

  13. Renewable energy and CCS Main partner in two centers for environmental friendly energies (FME), and the Norwegian Center for Geothermal Energy Research

  14. Master’s Programme in Energy • Specialications: • Renewable energy • Energy technology • Carbon Capture and Storage • Nuclear power • Aim to educate candidates with a broad understanding of energy issues in the society combined with specialization • Collaboration: • UiB – Bergen University College

  15. The PhD-program: • The faculty offers one PhD-program • Students are admitted on the basis of a Norwegian Master’s degree or equivalent education • To be admitted the student needs to be financed through scholarships or announced PhD-positions • PhD-positions are three years (project financed) or four years (University financed) • Enrolment at the department • Training component consists of minimum 30 credits
