  1. By Allie Fish and Tommy Berger The following Jim Crow etiquette is normal, pervasive instances.

  2. 1. A Black male couldn't shake hands with a White male because it implied being socially equal. A Black male could not offer his hand or any other part of his body to a White woman, because he risked being accused of rape.

  3. 2. Blacks and Whites were not supposed to eat together. If they did eat together, Whites were to be served first,

  4. 3. Under no circumstance could a Black male light the cigarette of a White female -- that gesture implied intimacy.

  5. 4. Blacks were not allowed to show public affection toward one another in public bcause it offended Whites.

  6. 5. Whites did not use courtesy titles of respect such as Mr., Mrs., Miss., Sir, or Ma'am when referring to Blacks. Instead, Blacks were called by their first names.

  7. 6. If a Black person rode in a car driven by a White person, the Black person had to sit in the back seat or the back of a truck.

  8. 7. White drivers had the right-of-way at all intersections.

  9. Basically, Jim Crow Laws affected all daily life of Blacks!
