  2. Life of m.c.escher • MauritsCornelis Escher was born on June 17,1898 in the town of Leeuwarden, Netherlands. • Middle child of 5 • Earliest work is a linoleum portrait of his father.

  3. Early works • His earliest works consisted mostly of etchings and wood and linoleum cuts. • Sea-shell 1919 or 1920 woodcut • Seated Female Nude 1921 Linoleum cut

  4. education • In 1919 Escher was encouraged to attend the university at Zurich, Germany to study architecture. • Sept. of 1920 he moved to Haarlem to attend the School for Architecture and Decorative Arts. • Met Samuel Jessurun De Mesquita and was encouraged to devote himself to the graphic arts. • “Beautiful” display of perfect symetry
