Sex chromosomes

  • Every cell in the human body has 46 chromosomes.

  • There are 22 pairs of chromosomes.

  • The two other chromosomes do not always look alike.


Sex chromosomes

  • They are called the sex chromosomes.

  • Every female cell has two sex chromosomes which are alike (XX)

  • Every male cell has two chromosomes which are not alike (XY)

  • The sex of the baby depends on which type of sperm fertilises the ovum.

  • The chances of the baby being a boy (XY) or a girl (XY) are equal.
