Before Application Deadline • Always have 2-3 interested research topics • List the experts in the topics and read their work • Research funding opportunities and the requirements • Be familiar with all the application items • Keep the profile always updated • Language proficiency is a must in doing research or teaching oversea

  4. Application Package • Research Proposal • Recommendation Letters • Curriculum Vitae

Research Proposal • Fully understand purposes of the Fulbright program and examine the proposals from previous grantees • Read the instruction of Fulbright program carefully and select the suitable topic • Write the research proposal following academic standards (background, objectives, research framework, methodology, data collection, research plan, citations, references…)

  6. Recommendation Letters • Contact with experts that have been knowing you for a while. • Provide the experts a copy of the project statement and get advice from them. • Ask them to write the recommendation letters and email to the program on time. • Check with them before the deadline. • Best options: academic advisors, employers, co-workers.

  7. Curriculum Vitae • All academic achievements • Past projects and research relating to the proposed topic • Research experience and practical knowledge • Position held in or out of the school • Show working and studying experiences with people from different backgrounds and cultures

Interview Session • Really understand the purpose of the Fulbright program • Take some time to review the contents of the application – especially, the statement of proposed study and be prepared to expand on any of this • Prepare, get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy meal, and arrive promptly • Be yourself and honest

  9. Basic Interview Items (Collected) • What are your academic or professional qualifications to pursue your project? • How valid and feasible is your proposed project? • What are your language qualifications to pursue your proposed project? • Do you seem mature, motivated, and able to adapt to new cultural environments? • What do you know about the US universities? • What sort of ambassadorial potential do you have in representing the Vietnamese abroad?
