  3. Origins Historically Walpurgis Night is derived from various pagan spring customs.

  4. This is followed by return of light and the sun as celebrated during May Day.

  5. In the Czech Republic, Walpurgis night , isthe night when the witches hold a large celebration and await the arrival of Spring.

  6. This night people meet by burning fires and they celebrate coming spring.

  7. People believed thatthis night witches meet and the caves are opening.

  8. Some poeple wear witch costumes

  9. To protect themselves from witches (and other evil things as devils etc.) people set fires on uphill places.
