    1. Good use of images--Great pictures Point to the place on the map where Acapulco is. Some in the audience will be geogrpahically challenged and it will give you some “ACTION!” in the presentation. Nice idea to use examples with specific data on losses Nice to bring in the macroeconomic effects Presentation design of macro effects and technology effects needs to be consistent with the design of the first part, which was REALLY NICE. I.e., words in column one, picture in column 2. The transition to economic factors as a contrast to the earthquakes was very nicely done. Nicely structured within each macroeconomic topic, with repeat from topic to topic--for example, Low helps, high hurts. This helps the audience structure their thoughts on the issues Transportation --put the pictures on two slides y2k stuff--not specific enough on the impacts on this industry. Weakness of the dollar against the yen in the early 90’s. Asian economic crisis and Hawaii. When economic conditions of other countries are good, tourism increases. Hawaii’s increase in tourism in the early 90’s.

    8. Interest Rates and how they affect the Tourism Industry Fed decreases the interest rates, tourism increases. Fed is encouraging economic expansion. Fed increases the interest rates, tourism decreases. Fed is tightening up monetary policy to restrict economic growth and inflation.

    9. Inflation and how it affects the Tourism Industry Low inflation rate will help the tourism industry. People are able to buy more things with their money. High inflation rate will hurt the tourism industry. People are not able to buy as much with their money so they will not spend as much.

Transportation and telecommunication systems Faster planes and trains (Britain’s Concord, France’s TGV, and Japan’s bullet train) -Traveling time will decrease -But is it safe (trains operated by computer, future planes flown by computers). -Environmental factors (air and noise pollution). Telephone, video conferencing, e-mail, fax, internet telephony, etc. - Cheaper phone rates and e-mail allow users to be in contact with friends and relatives more often, thus less traveling needed. - Video conferencing allows company to conduct meetings and business without leaving their home town.

    15. Y2K Fear - planes falling, credit card expires, bank records will be erased, and nuclear power plants won’t be able to measure radiation levels. Are we ready ? - tourism - banking - telecommunication - airline industrial - power plants
